Currently, Destiny 2 does not have true, in-game matchmaking for its raids in the traditional sense. This means the game won't automatically pair you with other players to form a raid team.
However, there is an in-game "Guided Games" system. This is not traditional matchmaking. It allows solo players ("Seekers") to team up with established fireteams ("Guides") who are willing to teach and guide them through the raid. Guided Games had some issues and Bungie hasn't invested further in it, so it's not consistently used by the community.
The primary way players find raid groups is through "Third-Party LFG (Looking For Group) Tools". These are websites, apps, and Discord servers dedicated to connecting players looking for groups for various Destiny 2 activities, including raids. Some popular options include:
Using LFG tools requires more player initiative than traditional matchmaking, but it offers more control over team composition and allows for communication before starting the raid.
Because raids require coordination and communication, Bungie has stated they believe that the guided games and the player LFG system are better suited to completing the content, rather than the matchmaking system used for easier content in the game.
